Our Story

 

Blue-Zone’s story begins in Toronto, Canada in the year 1996. The company’s founder, Ms. Dusanka Filipovic, P. Eng., acquired the global commercialization rights for the Deltasorb® Technology and launched Blue-Zone Technologies Ltd., the world’s first cleantech pharma company.

 

Since March 2024 Blue-Zone has been led by it’s CEO, Michael Logerfo, who has over 20 years of experience meeting the product requirements of patients in critical care institutions around the world, most recently as COO of Piramal Critical Care.

Blue-Zone’s team includes a talented group of professionals with a range of key capabilities, but most importantly they share a passion for our planet and are dedicated to finding economical and efficient solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and establish a sustainable source of anesthetic gases to serve patients and their healthcare providers.

Our Mission

 

Is to reduce healthcare facility hazardous environmental waste in a cost-effective manner by applying BZ patented technology.  We collect waste anesthetic gas normally vented into the environment and process the collected material into its pure form, providing a sustainable, cost-effective source of inhalation anesthetics.

Michael Logerfo

CEO / Director

Michael brings a wealth of experience as a seasoned pharmaceutical executive and a recognized leader in the anesthesia space. As the former President and COO of Piramal Critical Care Inc., Michael played a pivotal role in transforming the organization and driving significant growth of the company.

Sean Karamchandani

Director

Sean Karamchandan is an accomplished investor and healthcare entrepreneur. As an investor Sean has deep experience working with global leaders in healthcare service, hospital operations, pharmaceuticals, healthcare policy and biotechnology. As an entrepreneur, Sean founded, developed and commercialized a company focused on insulin digital injection delivery systems, which he sold in 2011. Sean earned an AB in Economics from Harvard University and an MBA from Columbia’s Graduate School of Business.

Paul Weber

Director

Paul Weber is an award-winning Life Sciences entrepreneur with more than two decades of industry experience in building world-class start-ups and scale-ups in the medical technology space. He is currently the Founder and Managing Director of OnPoint Ventures which provides strategic advisory services in the Medtech innovation sector.

Dusanka Filipovic

Founder / Director

Ms. Dusanka Filipovic, P. Eng., is the co-inventor of the Deltasorb® Technology and Vice Chair and President of the company. She subsequently acquired global commercialization rights for the Deltasorb® Technology from Praxair and launched Blue-Zone Technologies Ltd. Prior to that, while at Union Carbide Canada, she directed the overall development of the Delta™ Project. Ms. Filipovic has experience in the start-up and commercialization of technology-based companies, having served as co-founder & Deputy Chair Halozone Technologies Ltd., a publicly traded company, and E.E.R. Canada, an environmental engineering firm which was acquired by General Electric.

David Bacon

Director

David Bacon joined Halocarbon Products Corp. as CEO in 2015. David was the first Halocarbon CEO to be hired from outside the company. His vision is to build the New Halocarbon and position it as the strategic growth partner for innovation in fluorochemistry. David has over 15 years of experience leading businesses in General Manager roles where he consistently improved operations and profitability. Prior to Halocarbon, he served as President of the LSP Products Group (a division of NCH Corporation) and as General Manager of the AT Plastics (EVA) division at Celanese Corporation. Prior to his general management roles, David was a management consultant for McKinsey & Company. He began his professional career as a chemical engineer at Exxon Corporation.

Thomas Stanley

Director

Thomas Stanley is a seasoned R&D professional with experience in plastics, silicones, and water treatment industries. Tom’s career has spanned over 32 years and includes positions at General Electric and Suez Water Technologies and Solutions. Tom holds advanced degrees in Chemical Engineering including a PhD from U of Pennsylvania.
